Q: The retailer I want to purchase from is not listed. What can I do?
A: We already have more than 1000 retailers in the CarbonCred Mall and we are adding new ones to the site every week. If there's a company that you'd really like to see listed, contact us and we will do our best to get them signed up!

Q: How does the retailer recognise my CarbonCred Card?
A: Your CarbonCred Card number is unique and we include this information via a cookie when you visit a retailer website. The process is very simple and you don't need to do anything at all to start collecting CarbonCreds, apart from shopping from the CarbonCred Mall rather than going direct to the retailer's site.

Q: Why can't I shop directly on a retailer's site and still get CarbonCreds?
A: In order to activate your CarbonCred Card you need to shop via the CarbonCred Mall, otherwise retailers cannot track your visit and award you CarbonCreds. We're working on making our virtual CarbonCred Card a rewards card you can hand over at the till, so watch this space!

Q: What is carbon offsetting?
A: Carbon offsetting is a way of 'paying' for carbon emissions already made, by investing in projects that are restoring carbon levels or reducing carbon emissions. Typical carbon offsetting projects include wind farms, hydro-power and biomass energy.

Q: How do I know that the projects I can invest my CarbonCreds in are reputable?
A: We have partnered with a carbon offsetting scheme called Gold Standard. Set up by WWF and supported by Greenpeace and 39 other NGOs, it has set the highest standards in the offsetting industry. In this way we can guarantee the high quality and effectiveness of the projects offered for investment.

Q: How do I know that my money really goes to these projects if I choose to use my CarbonCreds to offset?
A: Working with the Gold Standard, one of the most highly respected carbon offsetting schemes, means that we can guarantee the quality and integrity of the offsetting process. Every offset purchase you make will have a unique ID and can be tracked on the site and just to make sure, CarbonCreds' offsets will be checked regularly by an independent auditor.

Q: What is climate change?
A: The term climate change is used to describe the changes taking place on our planet caused by the production of CO2 and other polluting gases. When these gases are releases - by burning coal, oil and gas, and by chopping down forests - they form a layer around the Earth. As the gasses build up, they act a bit like the glass of a greenhouse; heat cannot escape and the planet's temperature rises.

Q: Are we really to blame for climate change?
A: Yes, the verdict is in. Although our climate has always varied, through ice ages and heat waves, scientists are confident the changes taking place can only be blamed on human emissions. The increase is too big to be explained by natural causes such as changes in the sun.

Q: We like hot summers, so why all the fuss?
A: Of course we do, but global warming doesn’t mean just hot, it means unpredictable. A warmer climate will effect the delicate ecology of our planet, disrupting rainfall and water supplies, eradicating species, increasing drought and as a result, bringing starvation to millions. It is predicted that the extreme weather patterns that we've seen in the last decade, with floods, droughts, tornados and hurricanes, will become more frequent as the planet's temperature rises.
Q: So what can we do to slow climate change?
A: Cut down our CO2 - that is it in a nutshell! From individuals and organisations to a national and international level, we need to reduce the amount of CO2 and greenhouse gases we emit. However we do this, we have to start now to make an impact and keep the temperature increase to a minimum.

Q: Can renewable energy help?
A: The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently announced that we already have most of the technology we need to bring down emissions significantly. These include renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar panels, as well as more efficient cars and power stations. Switching to renewable energy is one significant step we can all take to make a difference.

Q: We are in beta form, what does this mean?
A: Beta means the site isn’t yet fully functional, but we’d like you to take a look at some of the features and let us know what you think.
We would like you to tell us about your experiences of using the site. CarbonCred is not going to be a success unless we keep people like you happy, so let us know! The type of things we are interested in are:
Is the site easy to navigate?
Is everything where you think it should be?
Are there features that you would expect to see and don’t?
Anything else that is important to you!
Of course, we want you to love it all, but the thing is, we need your honest opinion. You won’t hurt our feelings—really.
Email comments to us on feedback@carboncred.com.
Thanks, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts!
